Last month we took part in celebrating International Housekeeping Week. Housekeeping is the largest and one of the most fundamental departments in the hotel. 2013 was also a huge year for this team as the hotel added 462 new rooms, so we decided to celebrate in a big way!
Here at Hyatt, we like to call it Housekeeping Appreciation Week, and we started the week off by distributing brand new uniforms to the entire 150+ person Housekeeping team! Later that afternoon, we had an ice cream social with Haagen Dasz Nestle crunch bars!
On Tuesday, many room attendants were rewarded with cash prizes for consistently have great cleanliness scores on guest’s surveys about their stay. Prizes ranged from $50 up to $250!
Wednesday afternoon the team participated in a toilet paper toss challenge. The staff split up into teams to see who could land the most toilet paper rolls into receptacle bins from 10 feet away, a silly but fun way for the staff to come together. The winning team managed to land 36 rolls of toilet paper!
On Thursday morning, the staff was welcomed to their brand new housekeeping department! While the renovation of the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place has been completed for a couple months on the guest side, it’s still ongoing behind the scenes. The room attendants were welcomed to their completely overhauled area complete with brand new stadium seating! After a welcoming them to their new home, General Manager Paul Daly wheeled out table upon table of orange juice and McDonald’s breakfast to get the team going.
To round out Housekeeping Appreciation Week, the team enjoyed a catered lunch on Friday in one of our beautiful new meeting spaces, the Prairie Room. The team was pampered as if they were Hyatt’s top meeting clients.
International Housekeeping Week is always a fun week for the hotel and something the team looks forward to all year. Hyatt cares about our internal as well as our external guests, and Housekeeping Appreciation Week is just another way that Hyatt offers authentic hospitality.
